The Situation
Dr. Bob Uslander and Elizabeth Uslander are practicing care providers in San Diego. In California, as in a few other states, medically assisted deaths are legal, yet there remain many questions and uncertainty about how to navigate this topic. With their combined experience in senior healthcare and grief counseling, the union of this couple (both professionally and in matrimony) made them a unique resource for guidance and counsel on this topic. We were fortunate enough to help them build their brand and create a much-needed agent in education on the options available for those exploring this path for the final chapter in their lives.
Our Approach
As with any branding project, we began by interviewing Empowered Ending’s leadership, their team of care providers, the partners they work with, as well as family members who recently had their loved one choose medically assisted death. The feedback on the experience and benefits was overwhelmingly positive, giving us the information we needed to visualize a brand that would be a trusted foundation for those looking to learn more.

Solution
Helping finalize the name, Empowered Endings, we created the foundation for their brand by identifying their brand’s essence, archetype, vision, mission, positioning statement and mantra. Once these details were agreed upon, we visualized their brand through a logo design, tagline, stationery suite (business card, letterhead, mailing labels), presentation template, website, brand video, and e-book design.
Conversations about Palliative, End of Life, and Grief journeys can be daunting and difficult to approach. As our brand has expanded from a local medical practice to a nationally-recognized collective, it was clear we’d need creative support to capture our essence and make the brand come alive for our community of patients, families, and providers.
